Health requirements

We require proof of a veterinary exam performed by an avian veterinarian before a bird can board at our facility. Any diagnostics recommended by your veterinarian should be completed.

Birds must be examined or tested for these communicable diseases before boarding:

Psittacosis
Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD)
Avian Polyomavirus (APV)
Psittacine Herpes Virus (PsHV-1)
Avian Bornavirus (ABV)

The completed boarding contract must be received at least one week before the requested stay.

Daily rates

A 10% discount is available if you provide your own cage. We may not have a stand available for it. We can prepare one of our cages at no additional cost.

Active, consistent volunteers may qualify for boarding discounts after volunteering for 90 days at a minimum of two shifts per month.

Food and scheduling

Planning your bird's stay

We provide fresh chop or mash in the morning and TOP's pellets in the evening at no additional cost. If your bird eats another diet, please provide its usual food to avoid an abrupt transition. We will not serve food that is unsafe for parrots and may use our food at our discretion if unsuitable food is supplied.

Requested drop-off and pickup times depend on volunteer availability and are not confirmed until a Feathered Friends representative contacts you.

Known health conditions

Important: A bird that has not seen an avian veterinarian within the last year or appears unhealthy at drop-off cannot be accepted. This protects boarding birds and birds in our adoption program.

Our food policy: When a bird is in our care, we must provide a healthy and balanced diet. If supplied feeding instructions do not meet those requirements, staff may instead provide the food used at FFSR.

Birds that are aggressive toward volunteers may receive limited out-of-cage time. Extra requests cannot be guaranteed.

8 Requested boarding dates

Submit this form at least one week before the requested start date. Times are requests and will be confirmed based on volunteer availability.

Call as soon as possible if your schedule changes. If you are more than one hour late without speaking to staff, drop-off or pickup may need to be rescheduled. Payment is due at pickup. A 50% deposit may be required for stays longer than 30 days.

9 Boarding contract and release

Feathered Friends Sanctuary & Rescue, Inc. (FFSR) will provide basic care by feeding, watering, cleaning, socializing, and obtaining medical assistance in the event of an emergency during the bird's stay. I certify that I am the owner of the bird described in this form.

I release FFSR and its officers, agents, and representatives from liability for this bird. I authorize FFSR to seek veterinary care for my bird as FFSR deems necessary, and I understand that I am financially responsible for veterinary care my bird receives while in FFSR's care.

In the rare event that my bird dies while in FFSR's care, I authorize FFSR to seek a veterinary necropsy and understand that I may be financially responsible for it. I understand that these steps may be necessary to protect all birds at FFSR from contagious disease.

Boarding charges are based on a per-day fee. I am responsible for additional days I request and medical costs incurred during the stay. If I do not contact FFSR within 30 days after the agreed pickup date to arrange a new pickup date or report an extended stay, I understand that the bird will become the property of FFSR and may be placed for adoption unless sufficient reason is given for the missed pickup.
