Finding the right match

Adoption

How many visits are required?

We do not require one fixed number of visits. Multiple visits allow us to educate applicants and make sure the bird and adopter are developing a healthy bond. The number of visits may change based on the progress we observe.

How do I adopt a bird?

Begin by completing our online adoption application. Please answer every required question as thoroughly as possible. After the application is reviewed, a Feathered Friends volunteer will contact you about the next step and, when appropriate, arrange an initial visit.

How much is the adoption fee?

Adoption fees vary based on factors such as the bird's age, health, and care needs. We discuss the applicable fee with an approved applicant after they have begun working with a bird. Adoption fees help support the birds in our care.

When circumstances change

Surrendering a bird

What birds can Feathered Friends accept?

Our sanctuary assists psittacines, commonly called parrots or hookbill birds. We cannot accept wildlife. For an injured or orphaned wild bird, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. If you need help with another captive avian species, we may be able to suggest another organization.

How do I request to surrender my bird?

Complete the online surrender request before bringing a bird to the sanctuary. Submitting the form allows our team to understand the bird's history and needs, but it does not guarantee acceptance or immediately transfer ownership.

Complete a surrender request
How long is the surrender waiting list?

Wait times vary according to available space, staffing, and the needs of the birds already in our care. Like many sanctuaries, we must limit intake so we do not compromise the quality of care provided to our current birds. Our team can provide more information after reviewing your surrender request.

Visiting the sanctuary

Can I schedule a tour?

Tours may be scheduled in advance. Contact us to request a visit and allow up to five business days for a volunteer to respond. Tour availability depends on sanctuary operations and volunteer schedules.

Are you open to the public?

We are open by appointment only and do not maintain regular public hours. We cannot accommodate walk-in visits. Please arrange an appointment before coming to the sanctuary so a team member is available to assist you.

Care while you are away

Boarding and services

Do you offer parrot boarding?

Yes. We offer short- and long-term boarding for parrots. Rates vary by bird size, and veterinary examinations and communicable-disease testing are required. Submit one boarding form per bird at least one week before the requested stay. A submitted form is a request and does not confirm a reservation.

Do you offer wing, beak, or nail trims?

We occasionally offer wing, beak, and nail trimming services when qualified staff are available. Watch our homepage and Facebook page for announced trim days, or contact us to ask about current availability.

Still need help?

We are happy to point you in the right direction.

If your question was not answered here, send us a message or leave a voicemail. A Feathered Friends volunteer will respond as soon as possible.
